5:00 p. m. a 8:00 p. m.
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to Judaism, exploring its religious beliefs, historical evolution, and political dimensions from antiquity to contemporary times. We will examine foundational biblical narratives, the development of Rabbinic Judaism after the destruction of the Second Temple, key rituals and practices shaping Jewish life, the formation and distinctiveness of modern Jewish denominations, and the rise and implications of Zionism leading to the establishment of the State of Israel. The course will also focus on the historical and contemporary dynamics of antisemitism. By engaging with both primary sources—including the Hebrew Bible, rabbinic literature, and modern foundational documents—and scholarly analyses, students will develop a nuanced understanding of the internal diversity of Judaism and its influential role in historical and contemporary global contexts.
